Best Brother

September 23, 2011 3:25pm

My brother's away in Leeds at uni, but we still talk almost every day and are still pretty tight.

This morning I got a small package in the post, and I opened it to see that he's sent me an R4 for my Nintendo DS, I didn't know these even existed!

It's a chip like a normal game cartridge, but you put a microSD card in it and can store music, movies, games, files and whatever else you like on it.

He even put a load of games and some movies I haven't seen yet on it for me! He's such a dude, it's such a good present I'm going to have to think long and hard about something cool to send back to him as a thank you!

He's the best little brother ever. Right, thinking cap on!

Interview Tips

June 7, 2011 1:24pm

I have an interview this week for a retail position with Diesel UK, so I've been doing some interview preparation. Here's the best advice I've found.

1. Make a good first impression - handshake, eye contact, small talk until interview, sell yourself in that first instance.

2. Be prepared - know your CV, know the job position you're applying for, and do your research thoroughly. Be prepared for salary discussion.

3. Be concise, don't waffle - answer questions properly, even if you need to pause to think about it.

4. Be ready to tell them why they should hire you - look at the qualities they advertised, and demonstrate how you meet those requirements with your experience, skills, knowledge and abilities.

5. Be positive - the interviewer will be thinking about what it's like to work with you, so be positive and enthusiastic

6. Watch your body language - don't fold your arms, lean back or look at the floor - sit up straight, maintain eye contact, use your hands and be engaging.

Money Makes The World Go Round...

April 28, 2011 11:01am

Money.

We're always thinking about it. Always talking about it. Adverts on TV are telling you where to spend it, and how to save it.

I can't be the only person who's sick of it, can I? It's starting to drive me mad. Most of us worry about how far our pay packets will stretch when the hit the doormat, we opt for the better value options in the supermarkets and try to get the best rates at the bank for our loans, credit cards, savings accounts, and so on.

It's something we all have to be constantly considering, but do we really need the constant barrage on TV? Surely everyone knows by now that you can save if you compare electricity prices, but we don't need to hear that god-awful man singing about it on every ad break!

I know that I, for one, would get less stressed about money if everyone stopped going on about it! It makes me want to boycott every ad break, and ignore every billboard I pass!

Bad habits that make you age

September 25, 2010 6:00pm

The anti-aging products are probably one of the most prolific markets of the decade. However, there are things we do day-in-day-out that will age us prematurely and thwart any efforts of staying young and vibrant. Here are some of the worst habits.
* Spending long hours staring at a screen. I know there is not much that corporate moms can do when it comes to using a computer—you have to sit in front of a screen for at least eight hours a day. But cutting down on the TV time and number of hours of playing video games is beneficial for your eyesight and waistline.
* Stress is detrimental at any age, but the toll taken on your body is even higher once you’ve crossed the 40ies mark. Try to avoid stressful situations. Learn to say no to your boss who asks for that report at 10:45 PM.
* Use the MP3 player moderately. Blasting the music is hazardous for your hearing, and nothing makes you feel older than suddenly realizing you can no longer hear as well as you used to.
