Mrs Tonia Bowden - Primrose Headteacher

Our school

We provide a well structured and engaging curriculum and promote good behaviour.

We aim for the school to be at the heart of the local community and to foster a love of learning.

The school strives to empower students to make good choices which will enable them to achieve success.

The partnership between home and school is an important one. By working together, we can ensure your child is fully engaged in their learning.

Our staff team; many of whom are bi-lingual is dedicated to linking with families and accessing appropriate contacts.

Students are supported through an extensive pastoral care and learning support system. This includes specialist English as a second language teaching.

Our facilities

Most children in Year 7 are based in classes where they learn with one teacher using all the specialist facilities of the school.

These include Science and Technology workshops, Physical Education Sports Hall with a specialist dance studio, Art and Design, Music, and Drama studios, and up to date information Communication Technologies facilities.

Classrooms are well equipped. Our library and computer suite support independent work, and the sixth form can use the ‘Cyber café’.

The communal hall, has it own lighting and sound systems for school shows and assemblies.  All students and staff eat in a spacious dining facility.

The grounds are secure offering shelter, seating, and areas for outside recreational activities.

This exceptional provision is supplemented by the specialist facilities available in the Federated City of Leeds High School, which includes specialist vocational provision in hair and beauty, and construction and plumbing.

Our community

Primrose High school is a thriving school committed to developing successful citizens for the future.

In our community there are many different cultures; many languages are spoken here and people live and worship in different ways.

We celebrate this variety, and are proud to see this reflected in our school.

Our staff and students are committed to building links with the community and as such are regular contributors to local events.

Our students enjoy work experience placements in the local community.

We work closely with multi agency groups and the Primrose facilities are used regularly to support their work. This support includes hosting the basket ball group and Parents as Partner events.

We share the site with Shakespeare primary school and increasingly enjoy welcoming families who could see the site as the centre of learning for the whole community.

Our achievements

The school has accumulated many achievements over the years. Here are some

  1. The BBC local community radio joined the school in January 2007
  2. We are involved in the MEAP (Minority Ethnic Achievement Programme)
  3. We are involved in the BPAP (Raising Black Pupils Achievement Project)

  7. We aspire to becoming a Specialist Science College

Our school curriculum

We provide a curriculum which develops the whole child physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally.

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum which takes account of the individuality and uniqueness of every young person.

Our students enjoy work experience placements in the local community and innovative partnership arrangements which result in a highly personalised curriculum.

Our work is carefully planned ensuring all young people are given access to the National Curriculum, and a wide range of choices between 14 and 19.

Partnership arrangements result in a significant number of students attending colleges or the City of Leeds School for part of the week to follow their preferred option choice.

The curriculum is enriched by visits to appropriate places, guest visitors coming to school and the inclusion of different resources such as the Museum and the School Library Services.
