Together anything is possible

Shakespeare Primary School is a special place where we are dedicated to providing the best for all our children.

Mr Julian Gorton - Shakespeare Headteacher

Our school

We provide a well structured and engaging curriculum, and promote good behaviour through our Golden Rules.

We want all children at Shakespeare Primary to love learning and to respect and care for each other.

The partnership between home and school is an important one and we encourage all parents to take an active part in the education of their children, and to get involved.

Whatever the needs of your child and whatever special interests they have, we aim to ensure your child thrives at Shakespeare; feeling safe, having fun and enjoying success.

Our facilities

The school is a landmark building within the community providing state of the art facilities for learning.

From the care and provision available to 2 year olds, through to 11 year olds preparing for transition to High School, we provide an excellent environment.

Shakespeare Children’s Centre is an innovative new setting where teaching staff, teachers of the deaf, support staff and early years staff work in partnership with families to provide the very best for our young learners.

Each age group within the centre has its own inside and outside learning space especially equipped to support their physical, social and intellectual development.

The older children enjoy bright airy classrooms, each equipped with interactive whiteboards and computers.

The school hall provides a large indoor space for P.E. lessons and has it own lighting and sound systems for school shows and assemblies.

Our computer suite allows classes of children to work independently on their own computer.

The playground is a completely secure area that provides shelter, seating, grassed areas and trails for the children to follow.

All this is complemented by the specialist facilities available in the High School.

Our community

Shakespeare Primary School sits at the heart of the local community and has built strong links with all community partners.

Local businesses, churches, sports clubs, theatre groups, the BBC and many others all feature in the daily life of the school at different times during the year.

Our staff team is dedicated to linking with families and accessing appropriate contacts and support.

The range of provision is extensive and includes parenting groups, organising child care placements, training opportunities for adults, healthy eating awareness and toy libraries.

We are able to offer before and after school care, as well as all day care for nursery children.

If a family has a need we try to support them in any way we can.

Our achievements

We aim for excellence in all aspects of our work at Shakespeare and are proud of the progress our children make.  The school’s success can be measured in many ways not least by the range of awards we have gained.

  1. We have the “Basic Skills Award” to reflect the high quality of provision for the teaching of literacy and numeracy.
  2. We have been awarded the “Inclusion Chartermark” to reflect our caring and inclusive ethos and practice.
  3. We are a leading school in Leeds for promoting race equality and have been awarded The Stephen Lawrence Education Standard for the last four years.
  4. For our work in promoting good health and wellbeing of all children we have the Healthy Schools Level 3 Award.
  5. We have been awarded the “Investors in People” standard in recognition for the work the school does in training and developing its entire staff.

Our school curriculum

One of our school aims at Shakespeare is to provide a safe, secure, well disciplined and stimulating learning environment.  To achieve this we provide a curriculum which develops the whole child physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally.

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum which takes account of the individuality and uniqueness of every child in terms of their personality, characteristics, qualities, abilities and needs.

Our work is carefully planned ensuring all children are given full access to the National Curriculum.  We build on each child’s previous experience, assessing progress and identifying the next steps a child must take to continue to improve.

Children learn through practical work, discussion, questioning, co-operating, listening, watching and researching.  Lessons may include visits to appropriate places, visitors coming to school and the use of different resources such as the Museum and the School Library Services.
